VITO has a total budget of 103 million euro. VITO employs about 630 people, including more than 60 PhD students. In 2011, this resulted in 136 scientific publications and an increase of the patent portfolio to about 320 patents. The unit Energy Technology of VITO focuses its activities on “smart systems for intelligent energy networks” to respond to the needs created within the concept of smart grids. The unit offers a unique combination of years of experience on system integration on the user’s side as well as on the production and storage side.
